Founder Anko Itosu
1830
Born in Gibo, Shuri, Okinawa.
Studied Karate from childhood under Master Sokon Matsumura and Master Kosaku Matsumora.

1879
After the abolition of feudal domains clans and establishment of prefectures, he devoted himself to teaching Karate.

1901
Taught Karate as part of the physical education curriculum of P.E. at Shuri Elementary School. This was the first step in the popularization of Karate.

1905
He actively taught Karate at 1st Okinawa Prefectural High School and Teacher Training School as a part-time teacher.

1908
At the age of 77, he wrote "Karate Juka-jo" in October.

1915
Passed away on 26th January at the age of 85.

1964
A monument to Master Anko Itosu was erected in a cemetery on August 30th.
