  1. Draw (10:00-16:00)
    Two representatives from each country may attend
  2. Referees' meeting (18:00-20:00)
    All referees should and two representatives from each country may attend

2009 Itosu-ryu Karatedo World Championships

Entry qualifications and Entry criteria
  1. Competitors must be Current Itosu-ryu members
  2. Dan holders must have a Dan Certificate issued by Soke Sadaaki Sakagami
  3. Competitors cannot serve as Referees in the tournament
Entry fee
USD40 per competitor (includes lunch)
Entry fee covers multiple categories, i.e., individual and team kumite, and kata
Referees
  1. Kumite Referees will be designated by the Tournament Secretariat.
  2. Kata Judges will be Itosu-Ryu Practitioners from various Countries who hold International or JKF Kata Judge Accreditation and those designated by the Tournament Secretariat.
  3. Referees cannot be Competitors in the tournament
  4. Uniforms will adhere to IKIF/JKF / WKF regulations
  5. Japanese Officials and Itosu-Ryu Referees must wear the Itosu-kai emblem.

Competition Rules and Regulations

The competition will be according to WKF Kumite Rules ( Modified ) and Kata Rules will be (points system) regulations.

  1. Team kumite - tournament style (no repechage)
  2. Individual kumite - tournament style (no repechage)
  3. Individual kata - points system (2 rounds)
1) Kumite
  1. Children and cadets, full time 1 minute 30 seconds, 8 point lead
  2. Junior, senior, full time 2 minutes, 8 point lead
2) Kata
C1 competitors can repeat a kata in the event of the same score.
C2-C15 competitors must change their kata in the event of the same score.
Competitors can use the kata they used in the event of the same score in the first round in the final.

Competitors may only choose from Itosu-ryu kata : Pinan Sho-dan up to Pinan Go-dan

No Gekisai or Saifa

Only Itosu-ryu kata are permitted.

In the Final Round, contestants must choose a different kata from the Elimination Round

C2 Children (9-10) male/female mixed
C3 Children (11-12) male/female mixed
C4 Children (13-15) male
C5 Children (13-15) female
C6 Cadet (16-17) male

Competitors may choose any Itosu-ryu kata

Also permitted are: WKF Shitei kata ( Bassai-dai and Seienchin only )

Awards
  • For each kumite event:
    1st place - champion trophy, medal, and certificate
    2nd, 3rd, and 4th place - medal and certificate
    All participants - certificate.
  • For each kata event:
    1st place - champion trophy, medal, and certificate
    2nd and 3rd - medal and certificate
    All participants - certificate.

Soke's Technical Seminar
(Open to Current Itosu-Kai Members Only)
Cost USD 30 Registration on the day and payment before the seminar.
National Flag and Anthem
Please bring your Country's National Flag (130cm x 200cm) and a CD of your National Anthem
Safety Measures
  1. Medical staff will be available to treat injuries during the competition, but competitors are responsible for their own treatment after the competition.
  2. All participants and members of delegations must arrange their own medical insurance and personal trip insurance. The Organizing Committee and host country are not liable for injuries, medical emergencies or accidents.
  3. According to International Rules, face guards and body protectors will not be used. However, children and cadets can use them at their own discretion.

Note:

  1. Face guards must be JKF approved (Mizuno)
  2. Gloves must be red and blue (WKF Style, any manufacturer)
  3. Please provide your own mouth piece
  4. Please provide your own shin and instep guards if needed (WKF Approved Type any manufacturer)
  5. Red and blue belts will be provided by the host country.
